Naming/Polyatomic ions

Postby McKenna_4A » Sun Oct 06, 2019 3:43 pm

For the upcoming Chem 14A test on fundamentals, should we be familiar with naming rules and polyatomic ions? many of the problems seem to require these skills.

I don't think so. They are not in the objectives listed in Outline 1: Review of Chemical & Physical Principles. I have a feeling it'll be more like the first 4 learning modules we did.

I've been told the questions consist of some math questions similar to those in the homework as well as some short conceptual questions that were mostly covered in lecture. So to answer your question, no I don't think we are expected to know that yet.

I don't think knowing polyatomic ions are required but it's always good to know them.

I was told by my TA that it would definitely be useful to memorize the polyatomic ions, but I don't think they'll be particularly relevant to the test.
