The delta sign means that the reactants were heated, which is what is happening in a combustion reaction.

Combustion reactants are where the main reactant is supposed to be like burned so the symbol "Δ" is often used to indicate that the reaction is to be heated.

We include the delta sign because it represents the heat that is supplied to carry out the reaction.
