Ligands and Crystal Field Theory

I was wondering how ligands in coordination complexes may relate to Crystal Field Theory? How does Crystal Field theory explain how ligands affect the color of coordination complexes as well?

Hi! I think that Crystal Field Theory is based on the strength of the metal-ligand bonds, this will alter its magnetic properties and therefore, color as you mentioned.
