What is the Crystal Field Theory and why is it significant?

Crystal field theory (CFT) is a bonding model that explains many important properties of transition-metal complexes, including their colors, magnetism, structures, stability, and reactivity. It qualitatively describes the strength of the metal-ligand bonds in transition-metal complexes. Based on the strength of these bonds, the energy of the system is altered and can change magnetic properties and color.

Will CTF be of any major significance on the final?

Does anyone have a video they think is a good reference for this topic??

I thought this video on Crystal Field Theory was understandable:

It mainly uses concepts that we've learned already, like d-orbital shapes and electron configurations.
