MO with positive or negative charge

Postby Alondra Cervantes 1F » Sun Jul 17, 2016 5:29 pm

If there is a compound like CN^-, do we add an extra electron to the C or the N? Also, if it were CN^+, where would we take an electron from?

I believe for CN^- you would add an extra electron to the C. Overall, there is no set rule where you take an electron; It would just be added or subtracted to the total count of electrons.
