Atomic Orbitals in MO theory

When we draw the atomic orbitals in an MO diagram for anions or cations do we show the added or removed electrons in our atomic orbitals or just in our molecular orbitals?

If you have an anion, you add the extra electron to the more electronegative element's atomic orbital, and vice versa for a cation. Then when you do the atomic orbital for both elements then you just add the total amount of electrons to the molecular orbital.
