Partial Pressure

Postby Novelpreet_Boparai1N » Sun Nov 20, 2016 10:49 pm

In which situations will increasing or decreasing total pressure have no effect on partial pressure?

I believe sometimes when a reaction occurs, the changes in the amount of reactants and products can sometimes balance out to make an overall no change in pressure.

This would be a particular circumstance, such as a decomposition, where the increase/decrease in products' total pressure would not affect the pressure of one particular compound's partial pressure.

Could someone please tell me in what cases are we gonna use partial pressure in problems of ideal gases?

We use partial pressure often in calculations regarding chemical equilibrium. Just as you would use the molarity of different chemicals to calculate the composition of an aqueous solution, we use the partial pressures of gases to calculate the composition of the gases.
