Units of Partial Pressure

Postby nathansalce 3e » Sat Nov 25, 2017 6:00 pm

I understand that Partial Pressure can be measured in two different fashions, atmospheres and pascals. When do we know to use each one and which is better in certain situations?

Since we use SI units, I would think Pascals.

^ No, in the problems we've been doing in the book, partial pressure from Kp is in atm not Pascals

Partial pressure units should usually be atm. However, sometimes other units may be used, so be careful to convert then!

My TA said atm is preferred!

To add on to the previous posts, professor Lavelle has been repeating that the units should be atmosphere for pressure. However, when you do specific problems it will probably be specified. As long as you remember to use the same units when doing the calculations, you should be fine.

Also, be sure to know how to convert between the two types of units; a conversion constant is usually given as well.

Partial pressures are in atm.
