Will we have to memorize the ideal gas equation?

I believe you do not have to because it is provided in the constant and equation page during a test but it wouldn't hurt to know it.

No, you do not need to memorize it because it should be given on the front page of the constant page but you should be able to know how to properly apply it and know the units so you won't get point taken off.

I do not think we have to memorize it, as it is a constant, so it will most likely be provided for us.

I have a follow up question regarding memorization, I did not take 14A with Lavelle but my previous prof made us memorize some more obscure compounds. Could the same be said of Lavelle?

No-PV=nRT is listen on the Equations and Constants sheet on Lavelle's website as well as the values for constant R with multiple unit derrivations!

Also in regards to your second question, I had Lavelle for 14A and we did have to memorize the chemical formulas of some complex biological molecules. But overall, I would say it's necessary to memorize common polyatomic molecules as well as any specific example he goes over in class. For example, chemotherapy drugs were covered in class last quarter and we were expected to know the formula/structure on tests and exams.

Although these equations are given on the constants and equations sheet, it is helpful in terms of time and ease to memorize equations used often such as PV=nrT.

I don't believe that you have to since it will be provided for you on the equations worksheet. It is posted on his website and here it is for reference: https://lavelle.chem.ucla.edu/wp-conten ... ations.pdf

Also, I think you will remember it anyways because of its constant appearance and with practice, it'll stick. Hope that helps!

Will there be any equilibrium constants that we need to memorize for certain equations or will all the information we need be given in the problems?

it's on the constants and equations sheet provided on Dr. Lavelle's website!
