What is the difference between an ideal gas and a normal gas how do we differentiate?

An ideal gas is one that meets a few criteria (the gas particles do not attract nor repel other particles, their only interaction are in the form of elastic collision, the particles are randomly moving, and the volume of the particles are negligible). Ideal gas assumptions are fine for low pressure, high temperature contexts because this is when the criteria are closest met. Real gases are gases that do undergo attractions and repulsions, and do not have fully elastic collisions.

The difference in calculating between the two is ideal gases use the ideal gas law (PV = nRT), while real gases use the van der Waals equation (from Chem14A). I believe that for the problems that we're doing, unless they explicitly state "under real conditions" or something along those lines, we assume ideal conditions.
