### p. 170 Effusion Equations

Hello,
I was reading Chapter 5 and I was unsure of how Graham's Law of Effusion eventually was derived into an expression involving temperature. The equations are on page 170. Could someone explain the derivation/process to me?

The final equation is a combination of Grahams Law and the equation that Average Speed is directly proportional to the √ (T) (temperature). Since both equal the same thing they can be combined into the same equation which is the Average Speed= √ (T/M)

Hello,

I also was confused on this derivation. In addition, do you understand the statement at the end of pg.170 where it says "the times required for the same amount of two substances to effuse through a small hole are inversely proportional to the rates at which they effuse" and "the time it takes for a given amount of substance to effuse through the hole is directly proportional to the square root of its molar mass"? Thank you!
