Why are equilibrium constants useful?

Re: Post Assessment

Equilibrium constants give us an indication of where the equilibrium lays. So if K>1, the reaction has a greater concentration of products compared to reactants and if K<1, the reaction has a greater concentration of reactants.

A similar way to think about it is that if K>10^3, the reaction favors the products. If K<10^3, the reaction favors the reactants.

Equilibrium constants help show whether or not there would be more reactants or products at equilibrium. For example, if K=100, that would mean that there are more products than reactants as this value is greater than 1.
Also, the equilibrium constant can be compared to the reaction quotient to find which direction the reaction will proceed in. If K>Q, then the reaction will proceed in the forward direction, while if K<Q, then the reverse reaction will proceed.
