K and Q

why are only gases included in the k and q equations?

Because the concentration of solids and liquids are constant throughout the reaction.

The concentration of solids and liquids are unchanged in a reaction. so only gasses are included.

Solids and liquids do not make much difference in equilibrium. Therefore, they are excluded.

You exclude solids and liquids because they remain the same throughout the reaction

How exactly is the Q different from K if they are calculated the same way?

Q means there is still a reaction going on while K means it has reached an equilibrium.

Solvents don't change much since an insignificant amount of it decreases and concentration of a solid doesn't quite add up. Thats why they are excluded.
