Ideal Gas Law
What is the purpose of the ideal gas law and which reactions can use it as an approximation?
Re: Ideal Gas Law
the ideal gas law helps us convert from partial pressure to concentration and vice versa.

Re: Ideal Gas Law
For reactions that have homogeneous equilibrium for a gas, we can use the ideal gas law to convert between partial pressure and concentration.

Re: Ideal Gas Law
The ideal gas law can be used to solve for pressure, volume, temperature, and amount of moles. In class, we also used it to convert from partial pressure to concentration and vice versa.

Re: Ideal Gas Law
If we are given partial pressure but need concentration or vice versa it helps us convert between the two.

Re: Ideal Gas Law
So is the Ideal Gas Law used for reactions with gasses only, or is it more specific than that?

Re: Ideal Gas Law
To address Daniel's question, the Ideal Gas law only applies to ideal gases. An ideal gas is one where all of the collisions are perfectly elastic. Most common gases interact in this manner most of the time, but under certain conditions (including low temperature/high pressure), gases can begin to act less ideally.
