Gas Laws
I didn't cover gas laws that much in depth in high school, so is it fine if I just know the ideal gas law, PV = nRT? Boyle's Law, Charles's Law, Gay-Lussac's Law, and Avogadro's Principle are all put together into the ideal gas law, so do you think we still need to know each individual one, and does anyone have tips on remembering them? Thanks so much!

Re: Gas Laws
Everything you need to know will be covered in class. That being said, I think knowing the Ideal Gas Law is a good way to remember all the other laws, but may get confusing to use. The key is to remember to keep all other variables constant while you’re focused on the relationship between 2 particular variables. A good way to remember all of them is to understand the principles behind why they are what they are. For example, keeping pressure the same, as you increase the temperature of the gas, it’s volume increases. Why? Because increased temperature causes the molecules to move more quickly and collide more often, so they will space apart more, increasing total volume

Re: Gas Laws
It would be good to look through the given questions from the textbook to see if they ask for any of the other rules. It will probably give you a good idea of how in depth of what you need to know.

Re: Gas Laws
I think it might be helpful to understand the concepts behind the other laws, since it would help you remember the individual relationships between variables of the ideal gas law.

Re: Gas Laws
I think that the other gas laws could actually all be easily derived from the ideal gas law, PV = nRT.
Re: Gas Laws
Dr. Lavelle also hasn't covered nor mentioned any of the other gas laws so I don't think we would need to explain the definition or specifics of any of them besides the ideal gas law.

Re: Gas Laws
On that note, do you guys think we need to know the isolated equations or is the ideal gas law the only thing we really need to remember?
