If there is initially no products, then the change in concentration for products must be positive and the change in concentration for reactants must be negative. The same would apply for vice versa. Also if Q is less than K, then than the change in concentration for the products will also be positive and the reactants will be negative because the reaction will proceed forward. If Q is greater than K, then the change in concentration for the products will be negative and the reactants will be positive because the reaction will proceed in reverse.
Depending if there is an initial amount of products or reactants, the one with no amount will increase and the other will decrease. To determine how many values of X increase or decrease, you must see if the reactant and products have a coefficient in the balanced equation.
