Can you explain if there is any sure thing type of way to determine which types of intermolecular interactions occur between the same types of molecules

hello! a general way to determine which intermolecular interactions occur is to first tell if the molecule is polar or nonpolar by drawing its lewis structure. if the atoms around the central atom are the same and it doesn't have any lone pairs, like CH4 for example, then it's nonpolar. otherwise, it's polar. if it's nonpolar, only LDF can occur, but if it's polar, then it likely has dipole-dipole interactions and possibly hydrogen bonds. hydrogen bonds can only happen if there is a bond between H and either a N, O, or F atom. hope this helps!
