Forces In Relation To Ion Size

Postby Enrique_Mitra_2J » Wed Dec 04, 2024 10:56 pm

I’m trying to review intermolecular forces, how exactly does size affect the force strength and why?

Hi! As ion size increases the forces between the ions would typically decrease because the distance between them would be much larger, thus resulting in a much weaker attraction between the two ions. However, as ion size decreases the forces between the ions would be much greater because the nucleus between the atoms would be closer together, which means more attraction.
