While individually weak, these forces become significant in the aggregate, influencing the physical properties of non-polar substances. They contribute to the relatively low boiling points and melting points of non-polar compounds compared to polar counterparts. Additionally, induced dipole-induced dipole interactions are integral to the cohesion of non-polar molecules in the liquid and solid phases, influencing their overall behavior and properties.

Induced dipole-induced dipole interactions, aka London dispersion forces, play a significant role in non-polar molecules. These interactions are weak forces that arise due to temporary dipoles created when electrons move around in atoms or molecules. In non-polar molecules, they are often the primary source of attraction since there are no permanent dipoles. They contribute to the physical properties of non-polar substances, like boiling and melting points, and help explain why non-polar substances can exist as liquids or solids at lower temperatures.
