Boiling and Melting Points

Postby Rosselyn_Machado_2B » Sun Dec 10, 2023 4:53 pm

Hi,
How are you able to figure out the melting and boiling points by knowing the type of intermolecular force it has and the molecule it has?

I think the general trend is (weakest) Van der Waals Forces, Dipole-Dipole Interactions, Hydrogen Bonding, Ionic Interactions (strongest) with strongest having a higher boiling point. But I don't think we learned how to calculate the numbers.
