Bond energy value signs
Why are the bond energy signs all negative? They're all attractive forces that result from subtraction but I don't get why they're results of subtraction and why they're negative.

Re: Bond energy value signs
Because energy is released when a bond forms. Since energy is leaving the system, the sign is negative.
Re: Bond energy value signs
Yes I agree. Energy is released to break bonds, so it is positive. It is leaving the system. Energy is needed to make bonds, so it is negative. It is using up energy around to break it.

Energy is needed to break a bond and is released to form a bond. You also can understand by looking at the energy equation which starts with a negative sign.
