Boiling Point

Rank the following in terms of increasing boiling point:
LiCl, C3H7OH, C4H8, N2

Does boiling point depend on the strength of the intermolecular force?

Yes it depends on IMF's.

From those it looks like LiCl is ionic, C3H7OH is H Bonding, C4H8 is nonpolar Londons, and N2 is also nonpolar but I think weaker than C4H8 because it has less electrons, so less London strength.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

boiling point and melting point both depend on intermolecular interactions

Yes. The stronger the IMFs are the harder it is to break the forces holding the molecules together. To boil something is to turn that substance to liquid to gas and that requires breaking the forces therefore, it takes more energy to break the stronger IMFs. In this case, energy is in the form of heat so therefore, it takes more heat (higher temperature) to break the stronger IMFS.
