Dipole-Induced-Dipole and Dipole-Dipole
Hi! Can someone please explain the difference between the two? I am still confused about how they differ from one another.

When it comes to dipole-dipole, both molecules are polar with permanent dipole moments. With dipole-induce-dipole, one is a dipole while the other molecule is not naturally polar. It is only until the electrons of another molecule (in this case the polar one) influence the electrons of the non-polar molecule when it forms temporary dipole moments. Hence, the molecule is said to have induced dipole moments.

Dipole-dipole is between two polar molecules whereas dipole-induced dipole is between a polar molecule and a nonpolar molecule.
Examples
dipole-dipole: HF-HF (HF is polar)
dipole-induced dipole: HCl-N2 (HCl is polar and N2 is nonpolar)
Examples
dipole-dipole: HF-HF (HF is polar)
dipole-induced dipole: HCl-N2 (HCl is polar and N2 is nonpolar)

If it is dipole-dipole then the two molecules are polar and have a dipole at all times. If it is induced dipole that means that the molecule/s is/are non polar and only have a temporary dipole due to the random movement of electrons to one side of the molecule.

I think that if one of the molecules is nonpolar, then it is a dipole-induced -dipole interaction whereas if both molecules are polar with a dipole at all times, it is a dipole-dipole interaction.

Dipole-dipole interactions occur when both molecules that are interacting with one another are polar all the time. Dipole-induced-dipole interactions occur when there is a polar molecule interacting with a nonpolar molecule.

Dipole-dipole interactions need to be in polar bonds because a slight charge difference is needed. Dipole-induced-dipole interactions only appears in a polar molecule with a non-polar because induced-dipole means it is temporary dipole.

Dipole-dipole interactions are between two molecules that are both polar. A dipole-induced-dipole interaction is between a polar molecule and nonpolar molecule.

I believe a dipole-induced-dipole moment is between a polar and nonpolar molecule and a dipole-dipole moment is between two polar molecules.

I think dipole-dipole interactions it occurs between two molecules that have dipole moments (polar molecules) And dipole-induced dipole is when a molecule with a dipole moment interacts with a molecule with no dipole moment. And the dipole will induce a temporary dipole moment on the nonpolar molecule.
