ionic liquids

Postby samanthaywu » Mon Nov 23, 2020 4:53 pm

What is an ionic liquid? Is it like an ionic compound in liquid state? If so does this mean the compound has to be at a very high temperature because ionic bonds are so strong?

An ionic liquid is a salt in the liquid state that are liquid at unusually low temperatures.

Ionic liquids are salts with an organic cation and either an organic or inorganic anion. They exist as liquid at temperatures below 100 degrees Celsius. They have irregular structures, which delocalize their charges.

It is salt in the liquid state. The solidification of ionic liquids take place at lower temperatures.

It's a salt in it's liquid state and as many have said, it has a low melting point :)

Ionic liquids are ionic compounds that are liquid at room temperature. They are good at conducting electricity and are commonly used in electro chem. Hope this helps!

As everyone said, ionic liquids do have a low melting point, but more specifically it is when they have a melting point below 100°C. Additionally, they can undergo a multitude of structural changes.
