Hi everyone, so I remembered in the textbook for outline 1 there was a problem that asked what was true for a closed system I think… when there’s no heat transfer
So one of the answers was DeltaU=q is true only if there isn’t work done..but if there’s no heat transfer shouldn’t q be 0, and DeltaU=w would be true instead?
Can someone explain please?

If there is no transfer of heat, ∆U is equal to the work done. If there is no work done, ∆U is equal to the heat transferred. We can extrapolate this from the equation ∆U = w + q

If there’s no heat transfer and no work done, both statements would be true, and it wouldn’t be accurate to say one is true only if the other isn’t.
