Entropy is the disorder in a system. Energy which is disordered cannot be used for work since it is not ordered. A campfire is a good why to think about it since after the wood burns, the process creates ash, smoke, and gas, as well as heat. But the entropy rises as the fire burns because once the wood is broken down the molecules become more chaotic and can no longer be useful for furthering the work of the reaction to generate further heat.

Hi! Entropy is a state function (a function independent of its history/steps) and measurement of disorder in a system. It is extensive property as well as a spontaneous process that is related with maximizing microstates. It is closely related to the Second Law of Thermodynamics.

Entropy measures of disorder or randomness in a system. It increases over time due to the second law of thermodynamics.
Energy becomes more dispersed and less available to do work.

You can think about it like a room. Basically in a clean room there would be low entropy because things have places and are in them. You can find things easier so it takes less energy and you have more energy available to do other work.
A messy room has high entropy because things are all over and dont have a place. Finding things takes more work. So you have less energy available to do other work.
