## Work = 0 in a calorimeter/isolated system? [ENDORSED]

### Work = 0 in a calorimeter/isolated system?

During lecture it was said that if Vol (reactants) = Vol (products) then deltaH = deltaU. This is because deltaU = qp + W, but W is equal to 0 so deltaU=deltaH. Why is work (W) equal to 0?

I think work=0 because since the volume would be constant there would be no change in volume for the equation. w=-P(delta)V.

The system is isolated so no energy can be exchanged with the outside which means that work equals zero.

I went to discussion, and my TA said that work = 0 because like the other person said previously, the volume is constant. Since work depends on the ΔV, and ΔV=0, there is no work done, making w=0.
