Examples of Isolated systems

Postby Cerjay_Lugtu_3B » Sat Jan 21, 2017 11:16 pm

In class and discussion we've talked a lot about examples of open and closed systems. I'm having some trouble finding isolated system examples. What are some more examples besides the ones we talked about in class?

An isolated system is one in which both matter and energy cannot exchange with the surroundings. Not sure if these were shared in your discussion, but some examples of isolated systems include a (very high quality) thermos bottle, a bomb calorimeter, and the universe.

Quick question, can closed system exchange heat or matter only?

My understanding is that in a closed system, you can only have an exchange/transfer in energy (heat), but not in mass.
