Is a living plant an open, closed or isolated system? because a human being is. What about a dead plant?

A living plant is an open system because it needs to exchange mass and energy with its surroundings to stay alive.

A dead plant does not transfer heat with its surroundings so it is not an open loop.

A living plant is an open system. Just think about it in terms of photosynthesis where it takes carbon dioxide from its surroundings to produce oxygen; thus there's a constant exchange/flow of mass and energy between the plant and its surroundings.

It is exchanging both matter (ex. CO2, O2) AND energy (ex. heat), so it is an open system.
