to change internal energy you can add or subtract matter to or from the system, do work on it or make it do work and add heat or subtract heat from it.
since it is specifically asking how to increase internal energy it can be done by adding heat to it, adding matter and doing work on it.

As far as increasing the internal energy, you could add matter to the system, compress it which would be doing work on the system, and heating the system.

It also depends what kind of system you are trying to increase the q on; you cannot add or remove a substance from a closed system because matter cannot be transferred. However, for a closed system, you can do work on it or change the temperature.

In order to increase the energy of an open system, you can add substance to the system, heat the system, or do work on the system. In order to increase the energy of a closed system, you can heat the system or do work on the system. The energy of an isolated system is constant because no matter or heat can be transferred and the system cannot be physically changed.
