The universe as a thermodynamic system

Postby Jacquelyn Hill 1 » Sat Mar 10, 2018 4:30 pm

Why is the universe considered a closed system?

Since the universe contains everything by definition, and thus there can be no exchange of energy or matter with anything, thus the Universe is an isolated system.

The universe is actually considered an isolated system. Since we know that energy can neither be created nor destroyed, only transformed, the universe must be an isolated system.

In addition, the universe does not exchange heat or matter with anything beyond it, as there is nothing to do this with. So it is isolated.
