Re: Bomb Calorimeter
A bomb calorimeter is like a regular a calorimeter except a bomb calorimeter is an isolated system which is sealed and thus provides constant pressure and volume.

Re: Bomb Calorimeter
it is an isolated system which means that the volume is constant and matter and energy can not be exchanged

Re: Bomb Calorimeter
So for Test #1 Question 3a:
Propane is burned in the presence in the oxygen inside a sealed bomb calorimeter in contact with a heat bath and the pressure increases inside the calorimeter from 1 atmosphere to 1.5 atmospheres.
How would you justify that there is no work being done?

Re: Bomb Calorimeter
since bomb calorimeters have rigid walls, it is impossible for volume to change, so w = -PdV and dV = 0 so w = 0.
