### w=PdeltaV

In lecture on Wednesday, the notes said that "w=FD since F=PA then w=PAD = pdeltaV." Can someone please explain how AxD is equal to the change in volume?

Volume is equal to the area of the base times the height, and the height is equal to the distance!

$\Delta$V=(Area of Base)(height)=A*$\Delta$D

If you remember the diagrams Dr. Lavelle presented to display AxD is equal to the volume since it is the area of the section of the cylinder multiplied by the distance it traveled and in this cause that represents the change in volume.

to calculate volume you multiply area x height. to calculate the area of a cylinder you would find the area of the top and multiply it by the height

V=(Abase)(H)=A*D
