Heat, mass flow, and work are the ways to change the energy of a system.

To change the energy of a system, you can add or remove the amount of the substance in the system, although this only applies to open systems.

The second way to change energy is heat or cool the system (for a closed system).

The third way to change the energy of a system is to do work on the system/let the system do work on the surroundings, such as compressing or moving out a piston in a closed system.

1, Add or Remove the amount of substances from a system
2, Heat or cool the system
3, Do work on the system, or let system do work on the surroundings.

Note that the energy of the system refers to the internal energy denoted as U.

Hope this can help!

I order to change the energy of a system you can do 3 things
1. Add or remove heat
2. Add or remove mass
3. Do work on the system

You can change heat, mass, or do work on the system.

The energy of a system can be changed through heat, work, and mass flow.
