Open/Closed/Isolated System
Closed systems are when mass is conserved but energy can be interchangeable. Can it go the other way as well?

It can't really go the other way. If mass is interchangeable, this would make the system open.

Re: Open/Closed/Isolated System
If you mean by having mass be exchanged and energy conserved, I do not believe so. Isolated systems are the only systems in which energy is not exchanged with its surroundings, and those are difficult to come by as isolating anything from energy exchange is nearly impossible. I'm not sure that you would be able to exchange mass without exchanging energy.

No, transfer of mass isn't allowed because mass is conserved within the boundaries of the system. Since heat or light aren't physical, they are allowed to transfer outside the system.
