isolated system

is an isolated system neccessarily q=0 and w=0?

I think so because it cannot exchange heat or work with the surroudings.

I believe so as well, as it cannot exchange energy with its surroundings at all.

For an adiabatic container, however, you should always have q=0 since no heat is exchanged, but work can still be done, so w does not necessarily equal to 0 unless at constant volume.

Yes, for an isolated system the change in internal energy is zero since no matter or energy is exchanged with the surroundings. Because of this, q and w must equal 0 as well.

Yes because there is no way for energy to flow through it, so deltaU is 0, but w and q are also 0 because there is no way for energy to enter or leave, so they can't be balanced either.

Yes, an isolated system would have w = 0 and q = 0 because no work can be done on or by the system and no heat can be exchanged. This also means that deltaU would equal zero because interna energy = q + w.
