intensive vs extensive
what is the difference between the two and why is it important to know the difference?
Re: intensive vs extensive
Extensive depends on the amount while intensive doesn't. It's important because it tells us which constant or which equation to use like specific heat capacity vs heat capacity, etc.

Re: intensive vs extensive
Extensive represents things that are dependent on amount. While intensive represents things that aren't dependent on amount, like density. It is important to consider these when using constants and equations during your calculations.

Re: intensive vs extensive
Extensive properties depend on the amount of substance, while intensive properties do not depend on the amount.

Re: intensive vs extensive
Extensive: mass dependent
intensive: mass independent
Determines what units or constants you use in equation

Re: intensive vs extensive
extensive property: property that depends on the amount of matter.
Ex: mass, volume, length, charge
Intensive Property: Does not depend on the amount of matter
Ex: melting/boiling point, pressure, density, concentration
Ex: mass, volume, length, charge
Intensive Property: Does not depend on the amount of matter
Ex: melting/boiling point, pressure, density, concentration

Re: intensive vs extensive
Intensive properties are not effected by the amount of the substance. For example boiling point or molecular weight.
Extensive properties are effected by the amount of the substance. For example mass or volume of a gas.

Re: intensive vs extensive
intensive = doesnt depend on amount of matter; extensive = depends on amount of matter
ex. intensive --> specific heat capacity; extensive --> heat capacity
ex. intensive --> specific heat capacity; extensive --> heat capacity

it is important to know so that you can use the right constants in your equation
