Work on open system

Postby Jonathan Alterman 1C » Sun Jan 30, 2022 9:50 pm

Are there any ways to do work on an open system that would change the energy of the system?

I'm not sure I fully understand your question. In an open system, both work can be exchanged. For example, a tea kettle has a change in energy trough thermal energy and an exchange in matter through the release of steam. Hope this helps!

Work can be done on an open system, but it will exchange energy and matter with its surrounding. Whereas, a closed system will only exchange energy with its surrounding rather than matter.

I was wondering if someone had a good example for open and closed systems? To better understand
