I think that if you think of the universe as containing every single piece of matter and energy in existence, it can be looked at as an isolated system because (based on the principle that matter/energy cannot be created or destroyed) there is always a constant amount of mass and energy within that system and there is nothing moving in or out of it.

The universe is considered an isolated system because the mass energy of the universe is constant. Energy is not exchanged with the surroundings.

The universe is considered an isolated system because the overall energy of the universe stays the same. There is no matter or energy being exchanged between the system and its surroundings.

When looking at the universe as an isolated system, we know that there is no heat energy transfer or work energy (expansion/compression) being done to the system or by the system. If q = 0 and w = 0, then delta U is 0 meaning thus we come to the conclusion that there is no change in internal energy.

The universe is an isolated system because its energy will always remain constant. Since energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred, the universe will always have the same amount of energy and therefore by definition, be an isolated system.

The universe would be considered an isolated system because there is no exchange of energy between anything that exists inside the universe with anything that exists outside of the universe.

The universe is considered an isolated system because it does not exchange energy or matter with its surroundings. Any heat energy transfer from its system does not affect its surroundings.

The universe holds all the matter and energy. Since there is nothing existing outside of the universe, the universe can not exchange energy or even matter with its surroundings. This is further supported by the laws of thermodynamics, which state energy is neither created nor destroyed.

We considered the universe an isolated system because the mass energy of the universe stays the same, hences it is constant. And energy and matter is not being exchanged within the system and surroundings.

Hi!

The universe is considered to be an isolated system because it has no external boundaries and therefore cannot exchange matter or energy with anything beyond its own confines. This means that the total amount of matter and energy in the universe is constant and that no new matter or energy can be created or destroyed. Hope this explanation helps! ^^

I believe this is an astrophysics topic that doesn't need to be fully understood at this level of chemistry but it is because if the universe is considered the system, it has no surroundings.

It is seen as an isolated system because the universe's energy and matter is constant.
