How do we know the conversion factor of L atm to Joules (for HW 3 #15)?

Work is a form of energy, so it needs to be in an energy unit (J or kJ).

When you calculate work as w = –P∆V, the units of pressure (atm) times units of volume (L) results in work as atm•L. So you need to convert this into J through the conversion factor 1 L • atm = 101.325 J.
