combustion reaction

When looking at a combustion reaction and calculating moles, do we only look at the moles from gas or do we look at solids and liquids as well?

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but if you want to calculate the change in volume using PV=nRT, then n is equal to the change in moles of gas only.

Typically, you would only look at moles of gas when doing calculations unless for example it gives you the mass of a solid to start off a calculation with if that makes sense.
