heat capacity

Postby 506031050 » Thu Feb 22, 2024 1:46 pm

Hello! Sorry I am a bit confused as to why the heat capacity of a gas is 3/2R? Is there anything to change that, such as volume, or is it always constant?

This should only apply to ideal gases in which is under the condition of constant volume. Under constant pressure, it will be 5/2R instead.

The heat capacity of a monoatomic ideal gas at constant volume equals 3/2 R. At constant pressure, Cp = 5/2R
