## Isothermal, irreversible?

isochoric/isometric: $\Delta V = 0$
isothermal: $\Delta T = 0$
isobaric: $\Delta P = 0$

### Isothermal, irreversible?

Is delta U = 0 for isothermal, reversible processes only or does it also apply to irreversible ones?

This only occurs when the reaction is isothermal, because in the equation ΔU=(3/2)nRΔT, if there is no change in temperature, then there will be no change in internal energy.

It only has to do with isothermal reactions not about reversibility or irreversibility.

it should apply both to reversible and irreversible reactions so long as it is isothermal. often times though it seems like our class focuses on reversible isothermal examples (like on the midterm)

delta U equals 0 for isothermal reactions that are both reversible and irreversible. Additionally, it does not need to be an isothermal expansion, it can be a compression as well.
