### State Functions

Hi, I vaguely remember in Lyndon's review session about an acronym to help remember all the state functions. Can anyone refresh my memory?

The acronym is P D TV HUGS. When your under pressure and depressed, you should watch TV and gets hugs. P = Pressure, D = density, T = temperature, V = volume, H = enthalpy, U = internal E, G = gibbs free energy, and S = entropy. Heat capacity is also a state function.

Haha I think it was something like "When you are under Pressure and Depressed, watch TV and get HUGS

Pressure, Density, Temperature, Volume, Enthalpy, Internal Energy, Gibbs Free Energy, and Entropy in that order.

Enthalpy and entropy are state functions, but work is not. For me, I recognize a state function because in equations they usually have a delta symbol...delta H (enthalpy), delta S (entropy), delta U (internal energy), delta G (Gibbs free energy) are all state functions. They are not state functions simply because they have a delta, since you can find the change in anything. But in the major equations if they have a delta, they generally indicate state functions.

Pressure
density
Temp.
Volume
H Enthalpy
U Internal Energy
G Gibbs Free Energy
S Entropy

The two things that are not considered state functions are Work and Heat.

State functions are Enthalpy, Pressure, Volume, Temperature, density, and heat capacity, internal energy, Gibbs free energy, and entropy.
