$w=-P\Delta V$
and
$w=-\int_{V_{1}}^{V_{2}}PdV=-nRTln\frac{V_{2}}{V_{1}}$

### Reversible vs Irreversible

How do you tell if a give reaction is reversible/irreversible? What information needs to be given, and using that how do you figure out which it is?

### Re: Reversible vs Irreversible

If a reaction is reversible, $\Delta S(total) is 0 and \Delta S(sys) is equal to -\Delta S (surr)$

### Re: Reversible vs Irreversible

You can generally tell if the reaction is reversible because it will be stated in the question. If the question does not state explicitly that the reaction is reversible, you should be able to tell by the variables given which equation you should be using.
