Degeneracy

Postby Abigail Urbina 1K » Sat Feb 10, 2018 10:57 pm

Can someone explain/clarify what exactly degeneracy is and what its overall importance is?

Degeneracy is the number of ways of chivying a given energy state, and degeneracy's relation to entropy is found in the Boltzmann equation of S=kblnW, in which the number of microstates, or degeneracy, is W

Degeneracy is also a way to measure entropy that is the greater the degeneracy, or amount of ways to rearrange a molecule, the higher the entropy.
