## Different work problems?

$w=-P\Delta V$
and
$w=-\int_{V_{1}}^{V_{2}}PdV=-nRTln\frac{V_{2}}{V_{1}}$

### Different work problems?

When would we know when to use the different work equations such as -PDV or -nRTlnV2/V1 or DU. How would we be able to deduce one equation from a problem per se.

You would use w=-PΔV for an irreversible pathway and -nRTlnV2/V1 for a reversible pathway. You solve for ΔU normally using ΔU = w +q

You would use w=-Pext(deltaV) when pressure is constant, and w=-nRTln(V2/V1) when pressure is changing as well.
