$w=-P\Delta V$
and
$w=-\int_{V_{1}}^{V_{2}}PdV=-nRTln\frac{V_{2}}{V_{1}}$

### Derivations - Midterm

For the midterm, do we need to know the derivations of the formulas or do we just have to know how to use them?

The derivations are helpful in understanding I think, but we should just know how to use them and under what conditions each one can be used for the midterm.

Plus, pretty much all of the equations are on the formula sheet (https://lavelle.chem.ucla.edu/wp-conten ... ations.pdf), so I think application is the main point.

### Re: Derivations - Midterm

The derivation can be useful for the knowledge of what we're doing, however I believe the equation itself if more important. As long as you understand the equation and what to plug in / what it will be used for, you should be fine.
