Hello y'all, I am still a bit confused as to what degeneracy is and why it is important for thermodynamics? can someone re-explain? thanks!

Re: Degeneracy
Degeneracy is the number of ways of achieving a given energy state. The relationship between degeneracy, W, and entropy, S, is the Boltzmann equation (S = Kb lnW)

Re: Degeneracy
Degeneracy is the number of possible ways to attain a certain energy state, like the number os electron configurations that can require the same energy level. This can be used to then determine entropy and spontaneity of a reaction

Re: Degeneracy
Degeneracy represents the number of ways of achieving a given energy state, and represents the minimized energy at equilibrium. Entropy is at equilibrium when degeneracy is a maximum value.
