Reversible

Postby JustinHorriat_4f » Sun Feb 02, 2020 11:45 pm

In the notes, It says since a system is at equilibrium it is a reversible process? What does that mean? What is not a reversible process? What is the importance of it becoming a reversible process?

Equilibrium by definition means something is reversible and happens in both directions. In terms of thermodynamics, we are talking about internal and external pressure being equal.

^^ What he said. If it's at equilibrium, it's reversible because it's done in infinitesimally small amounts.

Equilibrium means that it is a dynamic equilibrium and a reaction is occurring in the forward and reverse directions. Therefore, if it is at equilibrium, it is reversible.

By definition, at equilibrium forward and reverse reactions occur at the same rates. So, any reaction that is at equilibrium must be reversible.

reversible means that even if there is an infinitesimal change in the system, there will be a significant change in the behavior of the system. the definitions of reversible in equilibrium reactions and thermodynamically, however, differ greatly.

Why is the external pressure changing (slowly but still) in a reversible process?

And what does effect does a common temperature have on the system doing work in a reversible process?
